Meet Cristina

As a little girl growing up in Fair Lawn, NJ, I always knew that I would pursue a career in the area of creative arts. I discovered a love and passion for baking and cake decorating at the age of 15. I set out to find opportunities that would enable me to learn and practice this craft. I started working for free a few hours after school in a local bake shop where I was able to learn some baking and cake decorating techniques.

That experience solidified my desire to pursue an education in the culinary field. I graduated high school and went on to attend Johnson and Wales University in Providence Rhode Island where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Baking and Pastry Arts. I had the privilege of working abroad in the prestigious Merrion Hotel in Dublin Ireland under Executive Pastry Chef Paul Kelly. After graduation I went on to work in a variety of kitchens from simple bakeshops to five star hotels trying to find my place in the culinary world.

Finally, I settled in Mystic Connecticut as a member of the Sift Bake Shop team under Pastry Chef Adam Young. There is where I got a clear vision of what it was that I wanted to do.

Cakes are reflections of some of life’s most memorable moments. My joy comes through creating beautiful cakes and seeing the faces of clients when they first see them! I specialize in floral sugar designs and love incorporating them into beautiful cakes. To me cakes and pastries are creative works of art and I am now so excited to share my passion and set out on this venture called Petal Dust Cakery!
